FBI Boosts Operation Not Forgotten to Tackle Violent Crime in Native American Communities

The FBI, alongside the Department of Justice, has expanded its personnel to support Operation Not Forgotten 2026, targeting unresolved violent crime cases within Native American communities. Now in its fourth year, the operation prioritizes violence against women and children, including those missing or murdered in Indian Country.
This initiative is embedded within the larger Operation Steadfast Promise, which aims to disrupt gangs, criminal enterprises, and fugitive activity in Tribal areas. The FBI’s increased commitment reflects ongoing challenges faced by Native communities concerning public safety and crime resolution.
Federal support highlights the critical need for dedicated resources to address a high incidence of violent offenses disproportionately impacting Indigenous populations. Emphasizing collaboration with tribal law enforcement, the operation seeks to advance justice and improve safety where vulnerabilities have often been overlooked.
By focusing on these unresolved crimes, the FBI hopes to resolve longstanding cases and deliver greater protection to marginalized populations, spotlighting the broader implications of justice and law enforcement in Indian Country.
